SENATE BEAN SOUP (SLOW COOKER)
A U.S. CAPITOL TRADITION!
Since the early 20th century, the cafe at the U.S. Senate has served Senate Bean Soup (Navy Bean Soup) every single day!
Start with dried navy beans, onions, celery, garlic, and a hambone!
Soak dry white beans, drain and place in slow cooker with hambone.
Add diced onion, celery, and garlic.
Add enough of the soaking liquid to cover all ingredients.
Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours.
Remove hambone and chop up the meat; cook and mash 3 potatoes.
Stir the ham and potatoes into the soup.
Hearty & delicious!
